The village turned out to be larger than it appeared. As he drove through town, he followed signs pointing to a railway station. He made a pass through the town, past the station and then, after determining no one watched for him, he drove back into town and parked the truck. It would be found eventually and it wouldn’t be hard to determine where he had gone.

He walked two blocks to the station. It was a small building with only one ticket agent, another problem that couldn’t be helped. He bought a first-class ticket on the next train passing through. It would take him back to Milan. From there, he would figure out how to get to Venice.

He paid for the ticket with his credit card. He didn’t have any cash, and waited an agonizing fifteen minutes until the train arrived. He was the only person to board. It wasn’t until the train had left the station that he allowed himself to relax. He was alone, for now.
